Talking about electronic documents

PDF Association news

FireworksWe've done PDF Day events and technical conferences across Europe, in the US, in Australia, and elsewhere.

This Electronic Document Conference is the first PDF Association event that's open to all technologies pertaining to documents.

It's about exploring the ways in which new kinds of data, structures and networks meet old kinds of ideas (and often unstated assumptions) about possession, privacy, authenticity, security, exactitude, quality, reusability, and other features of "documents".

It's not just about PDF! General areas for session topics include, but are not limited to:

  • 3D
  • Accessible content
  • Archiving
  • Collaboration
  • Documents in engineering
  • Machine learning and AI
  • Publishing
  • The business of documents
  • The future of documents

We encourage ideas for engaging discussions as well as practical (but forward-looking) lecture-style sessions. There are many relevant perspectives, as a sampling of proposals received to-date makes clear:

  • Deriving PDF to HTML
  • What’s the right way – in principle – to archive email?
  • Publishing documents precisely
  • Accelerated document rendering with modern hardware
  • What's "Enterprise PDF rendition" and why would I care?
  • Towards a theory of documents and their formats
  • An accessibility label for electronic documents
  • GDPR implications and opportunities at a file-format level
  • The business of documents: Document processing via prison inmate labor
  • Where does PDF fit in the future of documents?
  • Archiving 3D content in a 2D document world
  • Emerging technologies, specifications and standards that point the way to new levels of interoperability
  • Blockchain for documents - the future of security

We are looking for a few good presenters to provide some answers.

If you have an interesting observation or idea, from a workflow-of-the-future to fully-operational code, and you’d like to engage our community, please check out our call-for-papers, and let us know before February 8!
