PDF/UA, and especially, it's translation into an algorithm via the Matterhorn Protocol, provides a technical roadmap to achieving accessible electronic documents using PDF 1.7 (ISO 32000).
To help promote the efforts of software developers who commit to supporting PDF/UA, Duff Johnson, the PDF/UA US Committee chair since 2005, maintains a list of software with PDF/UA functionality in addition to an informal (but complete) history of major developments in PDF/UA.
