PDF Association: At the PDF Days Europe, you will be hosting a presentation titled “GDPR and PDF – Are You Ready?” – what’s that about?
Neil Pitman: The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) comes into force on May 25th 2018. The GDPR strengthens and unifies data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU). Organizations hold vast amounts of personal data in PDF files and need to make sure that their processes and technologies are able to support GDPR requirements including data access requests, the right to be forgotten and many others identified in the 99 articles of the GDPR. The session will provide a brief overview of GDPR requirements and concentrate on PDF-specific aspects including identification of Personally Identifiable Information(PII) in PDFs, Exporting, Security and Redaction.
PDF Association: Who is your presentation aimed at?
Neil Pitman: End Users, Service Providers and PDF Vendors who need to understand how GDPR may impact their management and processing of PDF documents.
PDF Association: What will the people who attend your presentation be able to take away from it?
Neil Pitman: They will take away an understanding of some of the complexity of the interaction between certain GDPR articles and PDF. One example would be an understanding of article 15 (Right of access by the data subject) and what this means in practical terms of finding, extracting, reviewing, exporting and redacting PDF documents.
